Skilpadsvlei, a small seasonal wetland, lies in the green heart of Kommetjie. At the turn of the 20th century, this then still wild and unspoiled piece of land was the habitat of many creatures, as one of the village's original inhabitants, Ann Seeliger, noted in her diary.
