Switzerland regrets not arresting Polanski earlier

Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf has claimed that Switzerland would have arrested Polanski earlier if authorities were aware of the previous visits by the film director, who owns a chalet in the Swiss resort of Gstaad.

Sounds rather hollow. JM Widmer-Schlumpp seems to be engaged in classic cover-my-ass posturing. Maybe she wasn't really aware that RP had pleaded guilty to rape, sodomy, oral sex with a 13 year old he had plied with alcohol and drugs.

Give her the benefit of the doubt.
