Study shows users of insulin pumps are at 29 percent lower risk of...

A study of more than 18,000 patients with type 1 diabetes has shown that use of insulin pumps to administer insulin rather than treatment with multiple daily insulin injections results in a 29% reduction in all-cause mortality and 43% reduction in the risk of fatal cardiovascular disease . The study is presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes in Vienna, Austria, and was prepared by Dr Soffia GudbjA rnsdottir, University of Gothenburg, Sweden and colleagues.

Diabetes UK said more research is needed, following the study

People who take eight or more portions of high-fat dairy produce each day are at a lower risk of developing diabetes than those who have only one portion a day, new research shows. A study of almost 27,000 people aged between 45 and 74, 60% of whom were female, showed that those who increased their intake of foods including cream and high-fat milk had a 23% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

North Korea sentenced U.S. citizen Matthew Todd Miller to six years hard labor for committing "hostile acts" as a tourist to the country, a statement carried by state media said Sunday, as the United States requested his immediate pardon and release. Miller joins Kenneth Bae to become the second American currently serving a hard labor sentence in North Korea.

U.S. warns citizens of terror plot in Uganda

The U.S. embassy in Uganda Saturday warned American citizens to stay at home overnight as Ugandan authorities attempt to foil a possible terror attack. The embassy in a message on its website said it is trying to assess the scope of a possible plot by the Somali militants, al-Shabab, and whether members of the cell plotting the attack remain at large.
