13 dead migrants found on boat near Canary Islands

The Interior Ministry says 13 people have been found dead aboard a packed migrant boat heading for Spain's Canary Islands.

The ministry says there were 46 survivors on the boat that arrived Wednesday at Puerto de Arguineguin on the south of Gran Canaria Island.

It says the migrants appeared to be from sub-Saharan countries. The survivors include two women.

Spanish judge seeks information on Franco victims

A judge began gathering information Monday about people who disappeared during Spain's civil war and subsequent dictatorship, seeking to produce a reliable list of victims slain away from the battlefield during the vicious fight between left and right.

Judge Baltasar Garzon issued a ruling seeking information from church leaders, city mayors and other authorities about victims of Gen. Francisco Franco's forces after his military uprising on July 17, 1936, touched off the war against the left-wing, democratically elected Republican government.
