You imply you want less government and at the same time you say: "...while the government ignored warning signs." Now you blame the government, specifically the Republican government that was in power for 8 years under G. W. Bush. He was for less government and less regulation (he repealed a lot of environmental and other regulations that "impeded" commercialism. I will never believe that commercial world fueled as it is by greed has a conscience and will look after the environment or the rights of individuals except for the wealthiest, more powerful citizens.
I am advocating limited government. Unfortunately the party of the conservative revolution and Ronald Reagan departed from those principles and started the current economic fiasco by giving us the first of a series of "stimulus" packages that basically postpones the inevitable while putting us in outrageous debt. When environmental concerns meet economic viability that's when we can have progress. Let the market dictate environmentally friendly projects and you will see the main street investor get involved. Again capitalism at its best.

The "market" has no conscience and has no concern for the environment. It's driving factor is profits at any cost.

I am from California, despite the current housing crisis our solar energy industry is growing. This is because of the economic incentives for the homeowner, the local economy and the manufacturer. Because of this symbiotic relationship prices are being driven down, the product is becoming more efficient and more customers are buying it. This is only one example of capitalism and environmental concerns coexisting. I can site hunting, fishing, recreation, agriculture, lumber and the list goes on and on. These industries have contributed greatly to make our world better despite the propaganda by individuals that lie about environmental issues due to a deeper political agenda. I submit that the opposite is true about radical environmentalist. An example of environmentalists that are without conscience and do not care about humans is a man made drought that places the importance of fish over human sustenance and welfare read the story here----->>>http://www.trib.com/news/opinion/mailbag/arti...

NY Unions Will Say a Loud "No" to Paterson Cuts

by Phil E. Benjamin

Tues, Nov. 18 on the State Capitol steps and for blocks around them, tens of thousands of workers and their unions, coupled with community activists, will be demonstrating against the budget cuts being proposed by Democratic Governor David Paterson.

Calling a special, post election session, of the New York State Assembly and Senate, Paterson hoped to preempt the 2009 budget session by getting agreement with elected officials from the Republican, soon to be Democratic, Senate and long time Democratic Assembly, that budget cuts must be made to fill the proposed $1.5 billion deficit for the year 2009. That agreement over the weekend failed.

He failed to get preliminary agreement over the weekend when he met with the leaders of those bodies. Now, the Special Session will face the wrath of the New York State United Teachers [NYSUT], over 500,000 strong, and many other unions. NYSUT represents all, and I mean all, teachers in New York State; public school teachers, college and universities [SUNY and CUNY].

Tomorrow's blog will fill in the list of demonstrators.

Stay tuned.

I wish I could answer with a resounding yes. But the fact is that the current administration is headed the other way by disincentivising investments and businesses. Instead of cutting taxes Obama wants to print money thus mortgaging our childrens future. Free money is not the answer. Buying things on credit and getting into debt never helped my family finances, as we can all see it isn't helping our economy now. People are scared to take risks because the moment they do the government levies burdensome taxes. The immediate response is to hide your money and keep as much as you can before they tax you to the poor house. The theory that we can tax our way into prosperity has been proven wrong. I don't know about anyone reading this but I know I have never worked for a poor person. Rich people take risks and hire people to run their companies so they can make more money. Overtax them and they'll close their businesses in order to retain their own wealth and people will lose their jobs. The rich will remain rich, workers will not be employed and the economy takes a dive. By the way I would love to blame the so called "stimulus package" on Obama but Bush started it first. No matter who plays Santa Claus with my childrens money this will end up doing damage despite its feel good intentions.
