Let‘s look at our social panorama for a moment, but a bit more focused this time on its human terms. In that sense, these are times for despondency. We watch with sadness as every week more and more public sector workers pack up their meager desk belongings and go home to a sad Thanksgiving Day. Most likely also, to an even more uncertain New Year. Just last week, Puerto Rico‘s government eliminated another 2,000 civil service jobs. Rampant joblessness, continued home foreclosures, excessive consumer interest rates, decimated social services, and plain old gouging are tearing at the fabric of the working and middle classes. The jobless rate on the island is more than 16 percent, a record high in recent times and our economy suffers its deepest economic slump in decades. The mass layoffs, along with some 12,000 planned for early next year, are casting workers out into an economy starved for jobs. Bankruptcies have soared, many businesses have closed and there is a growing waiting list for public housing. Here, just like in the mainland, to make up for shortfalls, political leaders are reaching deeper into the pockets of the those still employed, raising user fees on almost any service imaginable, jacking up fines for traffic violations, and allowing tuition hikes that make public colleges and universities increasingly unaffordable. It started today. The way I knew was my hardcopy of the Puerto Rico Daily Sun. It was delivered to my condo door before 3:30 a.m. today. At the top of the front page was the internet address. I announced the Daily Sun on my first posting which was the interview with AAV about PPPs could lead to chaos. I actually experienced the stories developing on the Daily Sun's website. I think it is a well designed website.

I dont think you UPFRONT YANKEE represent the true American. You promote Obama who so far has done nothing for the USA, just spent its money to China and other interests! You my friend are not a Yankee, but a sell out!

A true American -- as you claim to be -- would not quickly judge another person as a true American. Obama won by a large majority of the vote. Please get educated about how American democracy functions and learn the facts -- the real truth. Speaking of sending money to China, it was George W. who outsourced American jobs to China.

Maybe you should educate yourself on American politics,,Obama won with 52% of the vote,,McCain 48%

1984- Reagan won with 59% of the vote, Mondale with 41%,,,now that is what I call a large majority of the vote!

Like I have said, both democrat and republican parties are at fault with the problems of the country, but you seem to say,''VOTE Democrat and all your problems will be solved''. That my friend is wrong! It is the quality of a candidate that counts, not whether he is from the democratic party!

Don't confuse popular vote with Electoral College votes. He won big time with the popular vote. Did you know Al Gore won more popular votes than George W. Bush?

I still say a loud, thunderous "No" to all the "No" Republicans including Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. I can't think of one good Republican today. In the past, I voted for and respected lots of Republicans. They have all disappeared.

I love listening to MSNBC. Now that Lou Dobbs is leaving CNN, I will be listening more to CNN.

I think you and I may add some excitement to Topix as we debate...

I hate to use it but..... "LOL" as Jorge would post.

P.S. If we go by electoral college,,,Reagan won every state, but Minnesota, and Washington D.C.( I know is not a state)

also, if Al Gore would have won his own state of Tennesee,,which he lost, he would have been president in 2000. Maybe the people of Tennesee know something of Al Gore that we dont! LOL

Also,,Glenn Beck is not a republican,,,he is a libertarian!
