In addition to being a "Photo Op" governor, he would be called a "Trickle Down" governor if his political cohorts, the "No" Republicans, still controlled the U.S. Congress and the White House. The Democrats stopped tax cuts for the very rich and did programs for the people, of the people and by the people -- not the special interests. Obama Democrats do not believe in "Trickle Down" economics! What irony! These national Democrat programs are now making Republican "Trickle Down" Fortuño look good in Puerto Rico!

I hate to say it...but it needs to be said. Our Island will always be the way it is. Unless, Puerto Ricans understand the need for property and school taxes. We can only count on ourselves and our own money to fix our problems . And as a bastadized child of the USA ,WE WILL ALWAYS BE TREATED AS SUCH,we have no one but ourselves to turn to. Proper taxation would fix our financial woes thoughout our enchanted.island, buses, firefighters, teachers, our roads and intrastructure. Fortuno needs our support as we all need his to fix the problems, not add to them. Deal with it.

TJM wrote: <quoted text> Do you think Sila Calderon is better looking than Fortuno!?? LOL Sila is an extremely elegant woman. I run into her a lot, for we coincide in the same bistrot (in Suchville). The only time I ran into the Fortuño's was at the Ritz, a couple of months before last elections. And believe me, they are a very attractive couple. They blended in, perfectly, with the hotel's elegant atmosphere. Jorge

Puerto Rico can't even collect taxes from those who WANT to pay them. Puerto Rico can't figure out how much is owed. Puerto Rico can't 'deal with it.'

Two late thoughts. It seems to me that AAV arranged for far more photo-ops that Fortuño. AAV had one in the newspapers almost every day. I'm not keeping score, but it feels like less than half that for the current governor.
And, AMEN to Bobby B's first comment above.

Jorge de P.Rico Jorge, Im accustomed according to property tax issues, that each year, the tax appraiser apprases the property. Most of the time the amount of tax is the same each year. But never, never did I ever have to wait 2 years for the govt to do anything. I remember the days of Puerto Rico in 1994 when the telephone co. was part of the Puerto Rican govt, and you had to wait 3 months for a phone. In the USA, you wait just 3 days. Thank God that cell phone companies came around 1996(more or less) to Puerto Rico to offer a phone the very SAME DAY!! regards, tjm

Do you think that this sort of situation will improve if Puerto Rico becomes an independent nation? Jorge

When it became a private company and was no longer owned and staffed as another government bureaucracy, it got more organized. Yet nothing like here in the states I regret to say. Go to a mobile phone company in PR and the service will be nothing like the service in the states. I have purchased services and equipment from exactly the same company and noticed a great difference from company owned offices in the two locations. Actually, I had the same experience with 2 different companies in the states and PR--Sprint and ATT. The same with the cable TV companies. I ordered cable in the states and it was hooked up the next day, even on Sunday once. When I ordered cable in Puerto Rico it took 2 weeks for the installer to show up and then he told me the service wasn't very good in my area and that if he hooked me up he would have to run new cable to my house which would take him a lot of time. He suggested I get satellite TV and internet through the phone company. LOL. Just one anecdote, I realize. My lawyer in Puerto Rico used to say to me, "Some day we MUST get organized!" And then he would laugh uproariously.
