Since when was Puerto Rico a state? I didn't know that.
Hi Yolanda I never said it was a state. For the past 20 years I hear the independents say Screw the U.S. and we will be on our own. The only problem with that thought is their calculators are broken.
I don't care what the politics are in P.R. when it comes to being Independent. Lets do simple Math.
The information Below is from the San Juan Star and also MY time living there and working there doing business.
lets see where the Tax Money would come from to run the "independent Government"
1. Puerto Rico has more gov employees pop (4 million) Then New York (8.2 million )Taxed
2. P.R. basically has NO TAX On there property/houses. 3 years ago my real estate attorney said San Juan was only about 10% done after years of doing it.
3 Theres is no School tax
4.Theres no county tax
5.Garbage is pickup on Govs expense
6.(Sun paper)The CRIM (tax)office is STILL trying to get the deeds of homes on computer for Years. So far only 20% is done and the system keeps crashing. So its still done by HAND written and filed in a filing cab.
7. The New sales tax that started a few years back works like this. The mom and pop store takes there sales tax and puts it into a group Gov bank account. So the point is Gov will never know who really paid what.
8. Add the 10s of thousand of people doing Cash business Construction/small apt rentals that doesn't report it
9. Add to that the thousands of Homes steeling electricity (less money to Island)
10. Add the your total monthly water bill is cut in half because your water goes off for a day or so. This happens every month in many places.(less money to Island)
Theres is NO mathematical way for Puerto Rico to become an independent island unless they want to go back to horse and buggy's
I'm a numbers person and run a business here and in P.R.
The states only take the P.R. workers IRS money. They rest stays there. Explains why the states sends 15 billion annually to help keep P.R. a float.
The east cost economy was devastated when P.R. booted the military off Vieques and Roosevelt Roads Saba. It still didn't recover and its been YEARS!!
Nothing would make me happier then to see P.R. be the next Hawaii. Imagine the values of the property for All Puerto Ricans going UP and the tourism money piling in form the East Coast tourist. Think of the money to get a better police force and the crime goes down. Many Puerto Ricans would become Millionaires from there property values by the coast. Don't believe me price a house by the beach on the east coast with an ocean view.
