It will put too many Canadians out of employment. And some politicians will stop profiting from the registry. And thousands of Mounties will complain. Good luck.

Most other fellow Cdns I talk to don't have a prob with registry of hand guns but registering long rifles/hunting rifles is another thing all together.
Thousands of families in this country have had rifles in their families for generations. Having them and having them not registered has never caused any probs in this country. It is the shootings in the urban areas that caused a registry. Gang related, drive by's etc..are a city prob not a prob for more rural areas, hunters or farmers. Just because people who do most of the shootings in cities, we all know who "they" are, shopuldn't be a reason that I must register a rifle for hunting. Best way to handle these people is to deport them that can be and the rest locked up for a damn long time. |

So Rocketman, how many of those drive-by shooting are done with registered handguns? Has the registry stopped any crimes to date?
I've seen your philosophy here in the US. "Register/Ban any bad gun that I do not want. That is okay with me!" It never worked here and they've been trying it since the South passed gun bans to keep those shiftless Black people from getting guns and NYC enacted the racist Sullivan Act to keep those dirty immigrants from owning guns. Gun control is about people control. It is racist at its roots. Then again, so are the Liberals. |

1 You're kidding, right? What you are proposing is called "A Police State". Is that what you want? The police handling all of those messy problems that politicians will just bugger up? Next time you go to post... Stop. Think. |

1 Yea, You're right, ban all those other peoples guns, just as long as you don't ban the one's I want to use. I'm with you 100%. Now what kind of gun is it that you like? You and your fellow 'gun fanciers" in Canada don't stand a chance with that type of mind set. You must come to the realization that a "registry", or a ban, of one type of gun will just lead to the calls at a later date for a registry or ban of another type of gun until they are all either registered or (and most likely) banned. WAKE UP CANADA |

Minister grilled over timing of the release of a gun registry report
Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan attempted to undermine a report to Parliament on the federal gun registry Thursday - calling into question the agenda of its authors after refusing to make the report public before a crucial parliamentary vote. The 2008 annual assessment of the Canadian Firearms Program by the RCMP will be tabled Friday, said Van Loan, 48 hours after the Conservatives won a vote in the House of Commons on legislation that would kill the federal long-gun registry. Under intense questioning, the minister refused to say how long he's had the report. Instead, Van Loan claimed to have new statistics - not included in the report - that show the long-gun portion of the registry is relatively seldom used by police. By Van Loan's account, only 2.4 per cent of the 3.5 million police checks of the registry last year were specific to long guns, although even that slim proportion would amount to more than 80,000 long-gun checks. He questioned why those numbers won't be in the annual report tabled Friday. "That information was not put there by the people at the National Firearms Registry so you should ask them why that information wasn't there," said Van Loan. "We've gone and got that information." He said the report was prepared "to justify the existence" of the firearms centre, and suggested parliamentarians really don't need to read it because it shows the same thing as previous years. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/091105/nat... |

Your last sentence proved my point quite well, thank you very much. But just to pile a bit more on top; how about all of the police guns that are lost or, worse, sold by crooked cops? You want the cops to run the gun registry why exactly? |

Nat, I can understand your unreasoning fear of others being armed. Here in the states, the Liberals who want to ban guns are always the ones who get into pushing and shouting matches with their constituents and fellow law-makers. If you know that you can not be trusted with a gun, you automatically project your failing onto others. It helps to ignore that law-abiding gun owners tend to be arrested and convicted at a lower rate than the police and certainly at a far lower rate than politicians. So I can understand why you feel as you do. You're still 100% wrong, just understood. |

I remember any politician here that infringes on my rights under the Constitution of the United States of America. Shame on the elected turds here that screw with our rights. If you don't want a gun, DON'T BUY ONE.... Don't infringe on your fellow citizens rights. |
