Canada leaves Lithuanians out in the cold...

“We only had a small number of cases where an immigration officer has doubts and has to ask for an interview”

The Canadian government's Oct. 31 decision to lift visa requirements for Latvians has left Lithuania the last Baltic country whose citizens still need visas to travel to the land of the maple leaf. via The Baltic Times

260,000 immigrants accepted per year apparently quite a few.

well it's a little tougher commute. Since so many people want to go to Canada though, maybe we should just waive em through

Chix always dig the little brother.

As for 'next best thing", that has changed. Canada is the best thing. Ask any european.

Since it's a forum about Lithuania, my educated Lithuanian grandmother already knew Canada was the better choice over the States while living in a German DP camp in 1945. She had to wait with my dad for 5 years there, while my grandfather was required to live in Canada and prove that he could work and build a house for his family before they were allowed to come.

As for the other two families with them? They went to Chicago and L.A. lickety-split, because it was easier.

Stricter laws, more hoops to jump through to get to Kanada....but we all know it's worth it.

It's true chix dig the little bro.

That's an interesting as heck story. If I didn't live in America it's between Can-a-da, Ireland, England, New Zealand, and Australia. besides Lithuania of course. Tough choice. Maybe wherever the wait is shortest to get emergency med/dental service.

I think there are several towns in America called Canada. I don't suppose there any towns in Canada called America?

I'm aware of some States having a town named "Ontario", or "Ottawa", but not a Canada. Interesting though.

As for an "America" here, I haven't seen one. But in the province of Ontario, we do have towns called London, Paris, copenhagen, scotland, vienna.

Sticking with the topic of Lithuania, Ontario has a "Wilno", Alberta has a "Vilna", and Prince Edward Island has an "East Baltic" :)

and Merry Christmas to all..
