The truth is, I doubt that those rich countries are committed to lowering those barriers. Take France for example, even a knucle-head knows that they are the ones protecting the EU producers from competition. At the same time, why farm goods? They know that those are perishable within a short time and how can we possibly trade such goods with a market that is so far?

Frankly, i fail to understand why emerging markets bother with these tariffs. We know all too well that Western Europe or US will never remove their agricultural barriers to outside markets. A few years ago France burned its fingers by even contemplating conceeding to pressure, when farmers blockated the main routes within the country in protest. These farmers are way too powerful and any politician that plans to rub them the wrong way is commiting a political suicide. All they can do is bullshit with Africa and others ad infinitum. The sooner we create our own continental trading the better. Are we so doomed in our thinking that we fail even on such basic industries as agriculture?
