Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, has become such ten years ago, moved from the country's largest city Almaty.

My personal opinion: I would prefer Almaty to be the capital city, not Astana. Not because I am from Almaty, but because the money of the country could have been spent more wisely...

personally I find Astana very artificial and ugly city, but on the other hand I do believe that it was politically neseccary to movethe capital from Almaty been too close to Russia etc. On the other hand, Almaty is and will be the financial drive not only for Kazakhstan but for the entire Central Asia! So I would not worry to much for Almaty.
