Ecuador Requests Meeting With Obama On U.S.-Colombia Military Deal

So Ecuador forced the closing of the Manta base, and now for some reason 1,400 US military across 7 bases in Colombia represent a takeover of US government troops and a threat to Ecuador and Venezuela?

Exporting of drugs from Ecuador and Venezuela is on the rise, but neither government is doing anything to fight it. The police in Ecuador are corrupt and useless!

If Ecuador is complaining, they should have left the Manta base open to fight the export of drugs.

Correa wants cooperation from USA in the agreement signed with Colombia? Something is not right. Correa doesn't want any american soldiers in south america. If he is so concern about the narco traffic from Colombia to Ecuador why did he kick the American troops from Manta?

I don't trust Correa at all. He listens only what Chavez tells him. Neither one care for their people. They are so hang up on their power and the hate to USA.

I would like to know what Obama thinks about all this (I don't trust him either)

I agree--both Chavez and Correa are do caught up on hating the USA that they in fact doing more harm to Ecuador than good. I don't trust them either. I heard that Correa is thinking about developing a new currency? That should work out great?
As for Obama (and I don't want to get too political about the USA on an Ecuadorian blog), I do trust him. I would like to know his thought on this as well, but I do believe he's taking the USA in the right direction. I am a Democrat, but I am not a fan of this health care reform--as it stands. What I do like is that he has stuck his head out and at least brought up some difficult topics. G-Bay, health care Iraq, etc. I'm not staying he is perfect, nor are the policies, but at least we, as a country are discussing the topics. Okay, I think that's enough USA politics. I am hopping the best for Ecuador. I read on another blog your are going to Ecuador at the beginning of the year. You can find out more details about the stupid things Correa is doing for his country. He wants to change the currency in Ecuador? Isn't him an economist? That will be a desastre for Ecuador and I am not an economist.
MLC I am not happy with Obama's foreing policies. My friend lost her husband in Afganisan. It happens this week. Obama should have sent troops to help the other soldiers there. The poor soldiers serving in Afganistan are getting massacred because of obama's stupidity. He was asked three months ago to sent more troops to Afganistan. Now you see why I don't trust him. He is not in favor of our military. He has never been.
Unemployment is higher than ever and he is spending money like crazy. he should have helped the economy first and then to worry about messing with our health care.

Thank God we have a president who at least takes the time to speak to and LISTEN TO his advisors and allies before making a decision on whether to escalate the war. Having foresight and a game plan are key to success, unlike his bull-headed moron predecessor, Bush, who didn't want to listen to anyone; hence the mess we are in on all fronts:

It is a shame, though, that it looks like Obama will only raise the status quo and send in more troops.(So much for "Change you can believe in") Al Queda doesn't even exist in Afghanistan anymore, and he is going to rely on a corrupt puppet government for support. It would be better if we just pulled out. Good luck to Obama; he'll need it. He'll also need help in '12, because he's about to lose my vote.

You have good points, but I urge you to give Mr. Obama a chance. Yes, he probably should have added more troops from the start, but remember, he inherited this war. I'd like to think he is actually looking at the big picture, not just jumping in and "assuming" much like Bush did. As for the economy--yes it's grave (trust me, I live in Michigan), but again, the economy crashed before Mr. Obama came on board. I could be completely wrong and in two more years the USA could be even worse off than it is now, but I want to give Mr. Obama a chance. Let's allow him to show us what he can do--he's only been in office for 10 months. I'm going to give him a change to prove he was and is the right man for the job. I'm not saying I'll vote for him for his next term, that that's a long way off.

As for Ecuador, I'm hoping for the best too--Correa may be an economist, but a corrupt one he is!

Well the issue is that in Ecuador there has not been found any drug cultivation area, yes, drug does find its way from Colombia to Ecuador to later be shiped to the US by small fast ships and that was the main excuse for having a US military base here in Ecuador`s shores. The Colombian gov on the other hand has failed to control its own territory making it a place of big drug cartels and drug factories. Colombia produces the majority of drugs consumed in the US and Europe!!!

Anyway, something is not clear. The colombian military elite and police is very advanced and has gotten training and equipment from all over the world including the US. So the big question is: How come with so advanced technology, numbers of troops and weapons the Colombian gov has failed to eliminate the drug fatories and drug plantation? The answer is simple?: Uribe and his ties with drug? I dont know. You can get your own conclusions by browsing the internet searching for many news.

So what does the Obama admin wants in reality? I dont know but probably to continue to conquer the globe?

Leave South America alone and focus in the consumption problem in the US (Many problems in reality like unemployment). That can have a more positive international and national outcome.

This is just my opinion and I can be wrong anyway.
