“AIRCRAFT MEETS RETAINING WALL - WALL WINS”

Talking of Abu Dhabi, I got this amazing story the other day from a friend of mine.

“A brand new Airbus 340-600 sits just outside its hangar in Toulouse, France, without a single hour of airtime. Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi. The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area.

The flight crew immediately took all four engines of the virtually empty aircraft up to takeoff power. Not having read the run-up manuals, they had of course no clue just how light the empty A340-600 really was. The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because all four engines were at full power. The aircraft computers thought the aircraft was trying to take off, but had not been properly configured (flaps/slats, etc.)

Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm. Its fooled the aircraft into thinking it was air-borne. The computers automatically released all the brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward. The ignorant ADAT crew didn’t know this is a safety feature that stops the pilot from landing brakes on.

Unfortunately not one single member of the ADAT flight crew was smart enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, which had the $200 million brand-new aircraft crash into a blast barrier, turning the brand new Airbus 340-600 into a complete wreckage.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown due to the news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere. Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs.
French Airbus 340-600: 200 million US dollars
Untrained Flight Crew: 300 million US dollars (annual salary)
Unread Operating Manual: 300 US dollars”

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Pisces

Are you feeling fraught? It certainly seems that way, perhaps because you've got far too much on your plate and not nearly enough time to tackle it all. Do yourself a big favor and start with whatever is most urgent, otherwise you'll waste time by dithering or getting caught up in trivial tasks. Above all, don't get into a panic because that will squander valuable time and energy.
