Yeah right. We all tooootally believe that.
The problem with people like Chavez (and Evo, and Fidel, and Cristina Kirschner, and Rafael Correa) is that they totally and completely underestimate the intelligence and education of the people, because they spend so much time hanging out with the undereducated sector of the population that they are able to manipulate easily. There's a reason they work so hard to eliminate any and all opposition. They KNOW what they're doing is wrong. |

Wrong assuming that the vast number of the poor and undereducated and not capable of knowing is wrong. Education does not make somebody good. Many intelligent people like EVO never went to a university yet they are able to navigate. Education does not make someone intelligent. Intelligence is what determines whether someone like EVO will succeed, not education. Case in point, university educated people like the Nazis opened the gates of hell. So much for educated and high class people who think they somehow are better or kind of Gods. It is better to develop intelligence rather than education alone, the first as long lasting effects. People develop intelligence through experience, stress, conflict and how to think fast under stress. I think some persecuted leaders like Evo developed their expertise this way.

We have two words for education in Spanish "educación" and "formación". Education doesn't necessarily imply BOOK learning or degrees from educational institutions. Common sense is also a form of education. And I agree with you that both education and intelligence must be developed together, to the extent that I stated "the intelligence AND education of..." Your mistake is in assuming that Evo has "expertise". At this point in time, what is determining that Evo will succeed is NOT intelligence, education or expertise. It is his complete and total disregard for the law the violence with which any even slightly imagined opposition is being actively persecuted. Evo will win the next elections because his opposition lives in fear and under constant and continuous threat of death, imprisonment, harrassment and what we call "muerte civil" (civil death) which is when you basically "slander someone to death" (you damage their professional and personal image and reputation to the point where they are unable to participate effectively in society - can't get a job, do business with anyone, etc.) It's what is happening with individuals like Leopoldo Fernandez and with entire regions like Santa Cruz. |
