The corruption in Morocco takes place openly and before and long after the election. Living here, we put up with groups of 'supporters' all paid to cascade around town signing and throwing paper for around two weeks up to election day. In return they get well paid depending on their involvement. What's sure is I see people straying from their public offices to campaign. Even so noone knows what their candidate will do if they get into power. For sure the winner will recoup more than they spent to get there through tax avoidance and who can imagine what else!
Doesn't that ring a little parallel with peasant Iranians who are being bussed into Tehran for free to show support? Would they be there like the 'real' protesters if they had to pay to get there?
Of course I'm glad to see we do not have the scenes currently being broadcast from Iran however I feel that Morocco is behind Iran in that they are not pursuing democracy, for their rights and beliefs. It's for sure, the candidate will sit pretty in power and will he think of the people then?
