Australia airlifts 50 tonnes of weapons for Kurds in Iraq

In its third such airlift, Australia has delivered 50 tonnes of arms and ammunition to Kurdish forces battling Islamic militants in northern Iraq, the country's defence ministry announced Monday. As on the two previous occasions, a C-17A aircraft flew from Tirana in Albania via Baghdad where Iraqi forces inspected the cargo, then on to the city of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, a ministry statement said.

Bank of Albania governor arrested

The Bank of Albania Governor, Adian Fullani, was arrested Friday over charges of office abuse following theft of 713 million leks from the State Treasury. The Tirana police executed the prosecution's warrant for the arrest of Governor Fullani, meanwhile 20 minutes later inspector general Elivar Golemi was put under arrest, Xinhua reported.

Albania's central bank governor Ardian Fullani was arrested on Friday evening on charges of abuse of office after the theft of 713 million lek from the bank vaults by an employee, the prosecutor's office told Reuters. "The governor has been arrested after a court ruling on charges of abuse of office over the theft at the bank," Albi Serani, an official of the General Prosecutor's Office told Reuters.
