    In January-September period of the current year Tajikistan imported 500 thsd tonnes of wheat at the sum of 150 mln USD, up 22.3% compared with the same period last year by the import volume, and up 7.4% by its cost, informed the Statistical Agency under President of the Republic of Tajikistan on October 21. Also, the Agency noted the decline of wheat flour imports to the country, which supplies in January-September decreased by 15% at volume parameters, and down 20% by its cost - to 125 thsd tonnes and 52 mln USD, respectively. According to the announcement, the Kazakh products formed almost all specified imported volumes of wheat and flour.

Officials have said the as many as 10,000 imprisoned convicts and suspects in pretrial detention could be freed under the law passed by parliament on October 29. President Emomali Rahmon proposed the amnesty to mark the 20th anniversary of the adoption of Tajikistan's post-Soviet constitution on November 6, 1994.

    Tajikistan has extended the period for Iran's exploitation of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant for two years, Saidmahmudi Sadri, Iran's Charge d'Affairs in Dushanbe told Asia-Plus agency on October 31. According to the previous agreement, the revenues of the plant were supposed to be paid to Iran during 12.5 years. The Ambassador said the sides agreed to extend the exploitation period of HPP in favor of Iran in connection with insolvency of the Tajik side.
