    Another vessel, the Lauren Foss has been checked by health officials and is safe from the Ebola virus according to Brigadier General Anthony Phillips-Spencer, chairman of the National Ebola Prevention, Information and Response Team. Phillips-Spencer issued a release Friday which stated that the vessel arrived in Trinidad and Tobago waters on Wednesday at approximately 7 a.m. He stated that the vessel's last port of call was Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo on October 6. However, the vessel's captain declared to Port Health officials that the vessel did not berth at the Congolese port but instead maintained a distance from the port and that neither he nor any of his crew members came into contact with the port of call.

    GENEVA, Switzerland - The number of people known to be infected with the Ebola virus has exceeded 10,000 for the first time in history, in what is currently the worst outbreak of the virus since it was first discovered in 1976 by French scientists in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to the World Health Organisation, just 27 of the known 10,000 cases have occurred outside the three worst-affected West African countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
