The flick, which was directed by newcomer James D. Cooper , tells the story of Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp , aspiring filmmakers who in 1963 set out to find an unknown band to feature in a movie they were making about England's flourishing music scene and who went on to help guide that group to rock stardom. Lambert and Stamp also founded Track Records, a label that released The Who's records, as well as albums by The Jimi Hendrix Experience , Golden Earring and many other artists.
