We've always been bemused as to why Sony made such unremarkable franchises as inFamous and Killzone the lead launch games for the PlayStation 4. But we have a new theory, that goes beyond simply them being the first that happened to be ready: it's that its almost impossible to hate either game, particularly inFamous. It's equally difficult to love it but the functional, competent gameplay and story is as unlikely to offend as it is to excite.

    In our recent inFamous First Light performance analysis , we made an interesting discovery - the standalone DLC runs noticeably faster than Second Son, with an overall 12 per cent boost in frame-rates in the like-for-like test we've reproduced below. We wanted to find out why - did the smaller scale of the title help to increase frame-rates, or had Sucker Punch optimised the engine? And in addition to that, assuming that the developer had streamlined its engine, would we see those enhancements rolled back into the original game? We reached out to Sony and Sucker Punch for comment in the wake of our results.

    InFamous Second Son introduced several intriguing characters, but my personal favorite by far was Abigail "Fetch" Walker, the conduit who had neon light powers. Not only were her powers my absolute favorites during the game, but the neon lights brought even more color to the vibrant world of Seattle that Sucker Punch created.
