John Kasich has rescinded two executive orders, signed by his Democratic predecessor more than seven years ago, that enabled state-contracted home health and child care workers to unionize. In a one-page executive order of his own Friday, Kasich said those workers can now buy health care coverage on the open market, so the earlier provisions established by former Gov. Ted Strickland are no longer necessary.

Sittenfeld today challenged Ted Strickland to a series of six debates around Ohio that would forgo "the normal regurgitation of sound bites" as they campaign for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. The Cincinnati City Council member proposes that he and the former Ohio governor participate in issues-oriented "Lincoln-Douglas style conversations" in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, Youngstown and Dayton beginning around July 4. The debates "would be free of laboriously negotiated rules, canned opening or closing statements, panels of questioners or other artifices that serve to stifle spontaneity and favor sound-bites over substance," Sittenfeld's campaign said in a statement.
