A prolific listener, Lanz says he was pulled into the songwriting phenomenon of John Lennon and Paul McCartney after his early childhood years hearing mostly 12-bar blues from John Coltrane, crossover jazz-funk from Herbie Hancock and "deep listening to Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin" and others.
