    Watching the excellent Red Army documentary - written, produced and directed by Chicago native Gabe Polsky - reminds me of how little was known at the time, and how fortunate I was to cover a team that had Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov on its roster. Two prominent figures in Polsby's film that weaves the former Soviet Union's dominance of hockey during the Cold War through politics while giving insight to the extreme sacrifices made by Russian players at that time, Larionov and Makarov brought their vast Russian talents and intriguing backgrounds to a San Jose Sharks team in 1993-94 that was just two years removed from their expansion season.
