Writing in the New York Times recently, the 39-year-old said that she had the surgery to prevent her from developing ovarian cancer - the same illness that killed her mother at the age of 56. In 2013, Jolie, who is married to Brad Pitt, had a double mastectomy after discovering she had inherited the faulty BRCA1 gene - putting her at a high risk of developing breast cancer and possibly ovarian cancer.
