    This letter is in response to Barbara, of Victoria, who had a recent thumbs-down to Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority for not removing the logjam on the San Antonio River. The true blame needs to be placed on the railroad who modified the bridge structure on the river at the Refugio/Victoria County line, running parallel to Highway 77. My wife and I personally saw a long-armed track hoe, swishing the bucket back and forth in the logjam to free it so it would float downriver.

    An 11-foot alligator was put down by Victoria County Game Warden Travis Haug Tuesday morning after it was reported to be in the right lane of Farm-to-Market Road 1685, a mile down from U.S. Highway 59-S near Jalapeno's Cafe. The gator was removed from the roadway at 10:50 a.m. after additional deputies arrived to provide additional assistance to Haug and the first deputy that arrived on the scene to lift the gator into a truck bed.
