    Authorities say an Alabama man faces fines totaling more than $100,000 after he was arrested for harvesting 215 egg-bearing crabs also known as sponge crabs. The Sun Herald reports Jackson County prosecutor Mark Watts and state Department of Marine Resources officials decided Thursday that Deuanetum Keovoravong would be charged for each pregnant crab because of the potential impact on the blue crab population.

    Louis Vernon Jarman, 69, of Fackler was driving around 11:40 a.m. on Alabama 40, about three miles east of Scottsboro, when the 2005 Toyota he was driving collided head-on with a 2010 Ford driven by Jackie Ray Warden, 60, of Valley Head. Alabama state troopers said Jarman was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A Jackson County District Court jury convicted Filip Chase Rosario on Wednesday of six felonies in the beating and sexual assaults of a Holton woman in 2013. Rosario, 36, of Topeka, was convicted of two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count each of rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and criminal threat - all felonies.
