    An 18-year-old Bemidji teenager appeared in court, along with three juveniles, for assaulting a staff member at a group home in Grand Rapids on Dec. 13. The Itasca County Attorney reports that Dacota Smith, 18, made an appearance in court on Monday for two counts of second degree assault and one count of third degree assault. Smith is set to appear in court again on Dec. 22. His bail has been set at $100,000 without conditions.

    A 55-year-old Iron Range man was charged Monday with bilking his dementia-afflicted uncle out of more than $1 million and using the money to gamble, buy a new car and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in credit card bills. Patrick Vincent Pecchia, of Nashwauk, made his first appearance in Itasca County Court Monday on one count of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

    A Deer River teen was airlifted to a Duluth hospital Friday night after the car she was riding in lost control, and crashed. According to the Minnesota State Patrol 45-year-old Michael Hill, also of Deer River, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on Highway Six, near milepost 90 in Itasca County, when he lost control.

    According to the Itasca County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Anthony Scott Meyers was found dead in the woods near his home at 1:20 Saturday afternoon. Earlier we reported that Meyers left his home Friday, October 24th around 6:30 a.m. on foot after contacting friends.
