    Prosecutors in Itasca County have charged a 38-year-old Deer River man with 2nd degree murder in the death his infant son. Itasca County Attorney John Muhar says a grand jury will be convened to determine if further charges will be sought.

    Itasca County Attorney John J. Muhar said he plans to convene a grand jury to consider first-degree murder charges against Emery James Jenkins, who is 38. St. Louis County Medical Examiner autopsy showed the infant suffered blunt force trauma to his body, including a skull fracture and multiple rib fractures. Cuts and bruises were found on numerous parts of the baby's body.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 25-year-old Kassandra Keske, of Marble, was driving a Ford Taurus southbound on Highway 169 near milepost 317 when she lost control on the icy roads.

The Itasca County Attorney reports that Dacota Smith, 18, made an appearance in court on Monday for two counts of second degree assault and one count of third degree assault. Smith is set to appear in court again on Dec. 22. His bail has been set at $100,000 without conditions.
