    A Redway woman was arrested Wednesday during a probation search of her residence that turned up heroin resembling “China White,” a uniquely pure form of the drug, according to a Humboldt County Sheriff's Office press release. Deputies found just under an ounce of suspected heroin during the search on the 400 block of Par Avenue, which was prompted by tips of narcotics trafficking at the location, according to the release.

    While the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation began releasing Lewiston Dam water into the Trinity River on Wednesday as part of an ongoing restoration project, Humboldt County and the Hoopa Valley Tribe are seeking for the agency to make another release later this year to prevent fish-kill conditions. The option for the county to have the federal agency release the dam water was a contested issue for several years even though a 1955 Congressional act and subsequent contract between the county and the agency in 1959 promised the county 50,000 acre-feet of water annually in addition to fish protecting flows.

    Eureka Public Works Director Brian Gerving is asking the City Council to update its water shortage contingency plan and declare a Stage 3 water shortage at Tuesday's regular meeting, but the actual impact on the city's water customers is not yet known. Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District - which supplies water to Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville and other areas - and the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors have both appealed to the state to be allowed to cut water use by 10 percent, rather than the 25 percent mandated in governor's April 1 executive order.

    The efforts of a lengthy multi-agency investigation into a marijuana trafficking organization climaxed in two Humboldt County cities on Thursday afternoon with an array of drug seizures including nearly 760 cannabis plants and seven arrests, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force on Friday. After serving two residential search warrants in Eureka and one in Fortuna, the Drug Task Force agents among other agencies seized about 274 pounds of processed marijuana, 758 cannabis plants, concentrated cannabis, suspected heroin and methamphetamine, digital scales, packing materials, a money counter and an undisclosed sum of U.S. currency, according to the Drug Task Force.
