    The Hill County Sheriff's Office was notified Saturday morning, January 24, that human remains were found by local game hunters south of Lake Aquilla. According to Hill County Sheriff Michael Cox, a skull was found in a very rugged part of Lake Aquilla that is managed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is designated as a public-hunting area.

    The deadline for property taxes from the 2014 tax year to be paid in a timely manner is rapidly approaching, with the Monday, February 2, deadline right around the corner. Payment of tax bills issued by entities in Hill County and across the state last October will become past due or delinquent after midnight February 2. Once the deadline passes, penalty and interest automatically start to be tacked on to all tax bills.

    Forty-two-year-old Edwin Collins Jr. of Whitney was convicted of murder Thursday, January 15, after a Hill County jury deliberated for four hours in 66th District Court in Hillsboro. The sentencing portion of the trial was ongoing as of Friday afternoon, January 16. Collins is facing five years to life in prison.
