On a gray, cloudy day recently, there were a variety of birds -- from bald eagles to white-faced ibis -- but the wetlands were overwhelmingly populated by ducks.

    A 21-year-old Mexia man and a 20-year-old Fairfield woman were killed in a two vehicle crash near Fairfield Wednesday evening. DPS reports the wreck happened about 6:50 p.m. as a 2003 Chevy Impala, driven by Ian Spence, of Mexia, was westbound on FM 27. The car went off into the westbound shoulder, and the driver over corrected.
