    GREENFIELD - A Franklin Superior Court judge has dismissed the charges against two of dozens of Chinese natives from the New York area who were indicted in what authorities call the biggest insurance fraud scam in Western Massachusetts. Judge John Ferrara granted a motion by Greenfield lawyer Barry Auskern, who represents Xi Zai Jiang, contending that the Franklin County charges are invalid because the insurance company office where his client made the false statements is in the Hampden County community of Chicopee.

    West County Emergency Food Pantry opened Wednesday in the Cowell Gymnasium after moving out of the Shelburne Falls Senior Center. The Recorder reports that in the new 900-square-foot space the pantry will be open three Wednesdays per month, from noon to 6 p.m. Program Coordinator Dino Schnelle says when the program started in 2003 the pantry was serving about 30 families per month and was open for only three hours per month.
