    Sitting vacant and deteriorating for years, the historic former Ford County sheriff's residence and jail on the courthouse square is expected to be restored and put to use, now that it has a new owner. "It's good to get it passed on to somebody that hopefully will find a good use for it," Ford County Board Chairman Rick Bowen said after the board voted 9-2 this week to sell the aging complex to the nonprofit Paxton Foundation.

    A Paxton man was charged Thursday with multiple counts of aggravated battery for allegedly stabbing a bartender at Shooky's Bar - the second stabbing incident at that downtown Paxton bar in the past 18 months. Tracy L. Joyce, 55, who listed an address at 217 W. Holmes St., remained at the Ford County Jail on Thursday with bond set at $50,000, meaning he must pay $5,000 to be released.

    Ford County authorities say one man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident that happened Wednesday night. Authorities say Paxton police officers responded to a reported stabbing at Shooky's Bar at about 9:54 p.m. Upon arriving, officers discovered that a fight occurred at the bar, and that the bartender was stabbed in the lower left leg.

    A former Ford County correctional officer convicted of having sexual contact with a female inmate in 2009 was charged with a felony last week for failing to register his vehicles with the Iroquois County sheriff. Iroquois County State's Attorney Jim Devine charged Phillip S. Santefort, 45, of Buckley, with one count of unlawful failure to report as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
