The event took place at the Carolina Colours country club from 8 to 10 a.m. and sold 80 tickets for the 10-member team, under team captain Dodi Kline, raising more than $1,100.

    That was clear from the Craven County Board of Commissioners' work session this week as they wrestled with how to deal fairly with complaints about barking dogs and industrial noise creeping into rural county areas. The question was most recently raised to the board at the Jan. 5 meeting when a group of Evans Mill community residents complained about the noise from hunting show dogs in a nearby rural kennel they think violates the county noise ordinance.

    A mid afternoon mechanical problem on Wednesday forced the N.C. Ferry Division to take one of two vessels on the Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach route off line. The vessel Baum developed a problem with a cooling pipe for the shaft that connects to the rudder sometime before 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., work crews were on site, but a repair time was not available according to Tim Hass, the public information officer for the ferry division.

    The first overall property value decrease in Craven County since the Great Depression is expected from a 2016 revaluation of real property now underway, and could result in a tax rate increase. "It's an unusual period to be revaluing property in a declining market," Ronnie Antry, county tax administrator, told the Craven County Board of Commissioners meeting this week.
