    A car trying to pass a semi truck along old U.S. 70 West resulted in an accident that destroyed the semi in a fire and left the driver with serious injuries. According to Stanley Kite, Craven County Emergency Management Services director, a call came in about the accident at 9:11 a.m. According to New Bern police, a person driving a Ford Crown Victoria was attempting to pass the semi when the two vehicles collided and went off the left side of the road.

    We have learned one person was rushed to the hospital with burns after a tractor trailer and car wrecked in New Bern along Old Highway 70. Craven County emergency officials said around 9:10 a.m. Thursday, a tractor trailer and car wrecked near the area of Old 70 near Highway 55, close to the Martin Marietta quarry. The tractor trailer caught fire, according to City of New Bern spokeswoman, Colleen Roberts.

    New Bern aldermen agreed Tuesday night to move forward with an initial economic development plan funded by $110,000 from some of the proceeds of the sale of the Dunn Building, but not before there was heated discussion and a split vote. The economic development plan targets three concepts: development of the vacant city-owned lot at the corner of Craven and South Front streets for a parking lot and perhaps a retail building; adjoining parking lots between City Hall and the Craven County Courthouse; and redevelopment of the current Farmers Market site by moving the Farmers Market from South Front Street to First Street.
