    According to the Tabor-Loris Tribune , the accident happened on 77-year-old Paul Von Hinson's farm, just off Old Stake Road in Tabor City. The Columbus County Coroner, Linwood Cartrette, told the Tribune Hinson's family members saw him about 2:30 Friday afternoon, it's believed the accident happened between then and 4:30 p.m. This is the second time this week a man from southeast NC has died after their vehicle went into a pond.

According to Major Bobby Worley with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office, 30-year-old Joseph Thompson, a teacher assistant at Nakina Middle School, overheard a 14-year-old white student call a 15-year-old black student a racial slur.
