    Union Tavern, the Caswell County historic workshop of early 19th-century African American cabinetmaker Thomas Day, was saved from demolition and restored by Preservation North Carolina. The National Trust for Historic Preservation presented its Trustees' Award for Organizational Excellence to Preservation North Carolina, based in Raleigh, N.C. The award was presented during the Richard H. Driehaus National Preservation Awards ceremony in Savannah, Ga., Thursday, November 13. The group was one of 17 award winners to be honored by the National Trust during its 2014 Past Forward National Preservation Conference.
