Last month, the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor released a scathing report that rebuked Kaler and the U for misleading the public about serious ethical breaches in the tragic case of Dan Markingson, a young man from St. Paul who committed suicide in 2004 while enrolled in an industry-sponsored clinical trial at the U involving the anti-psychotic drug Seroquel.
