    An Elon University student struck by a car Monday night was in critical condition Tuesday, officials from the university reported. Gabriela Rosales, 18, a first-year international student from Nicaragua, was hit by a car around 7:50 p.m. on the Williamson Avenue crosswalk in front of The Oaks Residential Neighborhood, said Dan Anderson, vice president of university communications.

According to warrants by Elon University Campus Police, the alleged incident occurred between Jan. 10 and Friday, and involved a "sleeping" woman whom "the defendant knew or should have known a was physically helpless at the time."
