    The Ukiah City Council tonight is scheduled to discuss the Palace Hotel and the option of having a receiver take over its rehabilitation project For the first time in several months, city staff have backed off recommending that the process of hiring a receiver be started as soon as possible, and instead are recommending that the council and staff monitor owner Eladia Laines' progress as far as meeting assigned tasks. The three main tasks staff and the council remain concerned about include: securing the building from vandalism and weather; proof of a contract with Bluewater Environmental Services to remove asbestos and of an escrow account to pay them with; and submission of an asbestos removal work plan.

    Four suspects reportedly involved in a Ukiah Valley home invasion last week stood before a Sonoma County Superior Court judge on Friday for an arraignment proceeding. Christopher Montoya, Jose Israel Cabrera, Jonathan Otero-Cruz and Filomino Nunez, all from the southern California area, are facing felony charges of conspiracy, transportation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of brass knuckles and possession of an assault rifle, said the Superior Court clerk.
