According to witnesses at the scene, Glenn Burkes, of Traverse City, attempted to cross U.S. 131 near Tonawanda Road around 6 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

    A northern Michigan wind turbine that repeatedly broke down after being in service for nearly two decades is expected to be back in full operation within a month. WPBN-TV reports Traverse City Light & Power signed over ownership and operations of the 160-foot turbine Wednesday to Heritage Sustainable Energy LLC. Board members for the city-owned Traverse City Light & Power had decided to decommission the wind turbine in Elmwood Township after staffers made an unsuccessful effort to return the turbine to peak efficiency.
