The Traverse City-based helicopter was on a routine patrol when the crew spotted the wrecks and got pictures of them.

Griffin, a former Republican senator and congressman from Michigan who co-sponsored one of the nation's most rigorous laws to fight corruption in unions and who delivered a critical blow to Richard Nixon's presidency by withdrawing his support during the Watergate crisis, died Thursday in Traverse City, Mich. He was 91. Mr. Griffin was deputy minority leader in the Senate in 1974 and a former Nixon loyalist when he broke with the president and urged him to resign over the Watergate scandal, which arose when a team of burglars broke into the Democratic opposition's offices in Washington, D.C., during Mr. Nixon's 1972 re-election campaign and deepened with the administration's attempts to cover up the crime.
