    A Huntsville man was sentenced this morning to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to the shooting death of a Toney man in January 2013. Randle Hewlett Jr., 51, admitted killing John Mark Allen, as part of a plea agreement.

Madison County deputies found the body of 35-year-old Mary Anna Berryman in her Toney home on Nov. 4. Her boyfriend, 31-year-old Anthony William Bevels, was quickly developed as a suspect.

    A Toney woman was arrested in nearby Giles County, Tennessee on Wednesday after an investigation into stolen lottery money was linked back to her. Tina Renea Williams, 46, faces a Class C felony theft of property charge after police say she admitted stealing the ticket while working at the Ardmore Chevron off exit 1 on Interstate 65. The theft is for a total of $20,600, including the tickets and winnings.

    June Simpson was a teacher's aide at Sparkman Middle School in Toney, Alabama in 2010 when she sent a 14-year-old girl into the bathroom to be sexually assaulted by a 16-year-old eighth grade boy with a long history of discipline, and who had been accused in recent months of sexually propositioning girls in the school) so that he could be caught in the act and disciplined for it, the Associated Press reports . Simpson, who quit after the incident, said she told an assistant principal, Jeanne Dunaway , about her plan and that she initiated it after the principal, Ronnie Blair, told her he couldn't discipline the 16-year-old eighth grader unless he was caught in the act.
