U.S. Congressman Jody Hice, who represents the 10th Congressional District, which includes McDuffie County, will open a satellite office at Thomson-McDuffie County Government Center on Thursday, Feb. 12. Jessica Haynes, district director for Hice, made the office's opening announcement during the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners meeting on Jan. 22.     A man, who authorities believe to have been searching for drugs, broke into a local pharmacy and into four ambulances in recent days. Jacob T. Powell, 35, of the 5300 block of Lincolnton Highway in Thomson, was arrested Jan. 12 after a Thomson police officer found that he entered Moye Pharmacy on East Hill St. The officer, dispatched to the pharmacy because the alarm had been activated at approximately 9:30 p.m., Jan. 11, encountered a white male at the side of the building.

Jacky Ray Burley, 51, was sentenced in U. S. District Court on Jan. 15 to 235 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a multi-convicted felon.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Rich Fishel, the two cars were following a white van west on Augusta Highway approaching Lokey Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. 'The two drivers thought the van was going to slowly and attempted to pass,' he said. The third vehicle, driven by Shaqwaila Williams, 25, of Thomson, entered the lane to pass the second vehicle, driven by Tonya Griffin, 44, of Dearing and the white van.
