    The Maine Supreme Judicial Court affirmed the 45-year sentence imposed on Andrew Kierstead, the 43-year-old Tenants Harbor man convicted of the 2012 shooting death of his friend. Kierstead, represented by Rockport attorney Steven Peterson, argued the court erred in denying his motion to suppress statements he made to police and others in the hours following the murder because, he contends, those statements were not made voluntarily, due to Kierstead's intoxication and emotional state when he made them.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled that then Superior Court Justice Jeffrey Hjelm was correct in denying the request by Andrew J. Kierstead to have statements he made to police after the killing suppressed and not presented to the jury.
