    Statham is about to spend up to $8,000 on the preparation of a performance survey and the completion of an operational evaluation of the city's water treatment facility, both done by Engineering Management, Inc. This decision closely follows EMI engineer Jerry Hood informing the council Thursday that the City will have to spend just under $900,000 on repairs and improvements to the plant in the next five years - and $258,000 of that has to be this year. The $8,000 expenditure was approved at Tuesday night's meeting, along with the City's application for the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority "emergency" loan which EMI recommended Statham seek.

    The City of Statham will have to fork out nearly $900,000 in the next five years for needed maintenance and improvements to the city's water plant. The plant recently underwent an evaluation study by Engineering Management, Inc., who presented the council Thursday with a list of immediate and near-term needs for the water plant, which began operations in 1993 and is thus just over halfway through most water plants' projected 40-year lifespan, according to EMI engineer Jerry Hood.
