Two years after the horrific Boston Marathon bombing tragedy, more than 30,300 athletes, including six who call the Midcoast home, participated in the 119th running of the historic, fabled event Monday, April 20. Despite tough, cold, wet conditions , a field that included 24,139 Americans, 6,166 runners from other countries and 213 Mainers, was on paces to finish the challenging 26.2-mile course. It was projected that more than one million people watched the event along the route, laden with security checkpoints and sweeps, including bomb sniffing dogs, much of that concentrated around the now famous finish line on Boylston Street.
