    On Oct. 15, 2014, the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office received a report alleging a 65-year-old man had sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl multiple times over a period of one year, a news release issued by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said. As police investigated the allegations, the suspect, Michael Ray Gwilliams, 65, of Bloomingdale, allegedly fled Michigan for Silver Springs, Fla., police said.

    An Indiana man with a criminal history that earned him the nickname "The Big Bandit" is facing federal charges in connection with three bank robberies in Southwest Michigan this month. Brian Standiford, 49, admitted to investigators that he robbed the Chemical Bank in Oshtemo Township on Jan. 5, a Consumers Credit Union in South Haven on Jan. 9, and the Old National Bank in Portage on Jan. 13, according to court documents filed this week in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids.
