    The Library Board of Trustees of the Halifax County-South Boston Public Library Tuesday voted to extend the position of branch manager for the South Boston Library to Robert Rosenthal following a closed session. Rosenthal has accepted the job offer and should be in his new position by July 1. Rosenthal received his graduate degree in library science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013.

    The South Boston Police Department is facing a $25 million federal lawsuit with the death two years ago of a 46-year-old African-American man whose family alleges he died of cardiac arrest from police Taser weapons. The lawsuit, filed Apr. 29 in U.S. District Court in Danville, accuses the South Boston department of causing the wrongful death of Linwood Raymond Lambert Jr. who was taken into police custody in the early morning hours of May 4, 2013 at the Super 8 Motel on U.S. 58. The lawsuit charges that the unarmed Lambert was the victim of police brutality and denial of medical attention after the alleged assault by police.
