    SANFORD -Improperly disposed smoking materials caused an early morning fire that damaged a River Street home and displaced 13 people on Friday, May 15, according to Sanford's Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Cutter. Firefighters were called to the three-story building at 43 River Street at about 1:30 a.m. and found the rear of the building fully involved in flames.

    SANFORD - No cause has yet been determined for a ground fire that burned about six acres in woods off New Dam Road on Wednesday, May 13. A caller reported smelling smoke in the area of Cyro Road at about 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. Sanford firefighters responded but initially had difficulty locating the source of the odor and getting close to the area it seemed to be coming from.
