    A 55-year-old construction worker was struck and killed in a work zone on Oregon 22 west of Interstate 5 early Tuesday morning, Salem police said. Lt. Steve Birr of the Salem Police Department said William R. Hatch III of Salem was grinding pavement for a private contractor about a mile west of Interstate 5 when he was struck just after midnight by an eastbound 1992 Lexus.

Scott Elementary School , which is several blocks east of the shooting scene, was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution, Baldridge said.

    Two private marinas on Detroit Lake, which has unusually low water entering the summer recreation season, will temporarily move their moorage facilities and services to water at Detroit Flats on the south edge of town. The reservoir level is some 50 feet lower than normal, leaving much of the lakeshore exposed and making it impossible to operate all but one boat launch and moorage docks.
